Quantum Future Dreaming is an interactive workshop designed to transport participants into the realm of future possibilities. This experience combines storytelling and world building exercises with guided visualizations, using the principles of quantum theory as a launchpad to envision alternate worlds and realities.

The workshop begins with a meditative visualization to ground participants in the present before taking them on a journey into the future. Through a series of thought-provoking questions and prompts, participants create stories from their imagined worlds, building a speculative future where sustainable practices, equality, and technological harmony are the norm.

Using generative AI tools, we will then bring these futures to life, creating stunning visual artifacts that can be brought home. Participants will leave empowered by their ability to shape the future, armed with knowledge of the tools and resources needed to make it happen. 

We will also analyze these imagined futures to explore how they can address today's challenges, creating a future free of bias and filled with innovation. This structured exploration inspires students and educators to unleash their imaginations and awaken the leader inside of them, understanding their pivotal role in shaping a better future.

  • In quantum theory, there are multiple worlds and realities, much like the various possible futures we face. For instance, our future can go down a path of environmental degradation due to climate change, or we can take action now to create a different, more positive outcome. "Quantum", used playfully, gives us permission to explore these possibilities and emphasizes the importance of imagination in shaping our future.

  • The length of this workshop can be flexible, between less than one hour to three hours or more. Longer ones have more exercises and group discussions. No matter the length, everyone will create a vision for the future and see that vision come to life with generative AI. 

  • This workshop is designed for students and educators in creative and interdisciplinary fields. It caters to a broad age range, from kids as young as 8 years old to college students aged 18-22, and educators of all ages. We tailor the workshop to each age group, but we especially love comparing visions for the future across diverse backgrounds and historically marginalized communities. We aim to prepare tomorrow's leaders and innovators with the skills to use AI to create a more sustainable, diverse, and equitable future.

  • I have administered this workshop in a variety of forms since 2021. Overall, I have surveyed hundreds of people from ages 7-89 about what they imagine the future to look like. My goal is to build an interactive database of people’s visions from the future from all over the globe. Together, we can reimagine the future, one workshop at a time.
